Class Description

We're excited to announce that The Concord Review (TCR) is coming to the Bay Area for an exclusive history research workshop at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University during the summer of 2025!

The TCR History Scholars Seminar offers an intensive, in-person experience where high school students learn and practice key skills for researching and writing history. You’ll arrive with a research topic in mind (and ideally, some books and articles you’ve already explored), or even a draft of your project. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, you’ll develop the historian's craft and work toward completing a historical research paper of 4,000 to 8,000 words—a long-term project that can take anywhere from two to six months.

Why Hoover?
The Concord Review has always encouraged students to choose topics they are passionate about, giving them the freedom to explore and write about what matters to them. While the Seminar has no set theme, it’s worth noting that the Hoover Institution is renowned for its emphasis on freedom and its extensive archives on the history of war, revolution, and peace, including authoritarian regimes, political and social movements, law, and dissidents. The Hoover Institution’s holdings extend from American history to the history of all regions of the globe and their interaction.  Hoover could be a dream destination, offering a wealth of unique sources to dive into during your two weeks with us.
